Push notification

What is a push notification?

A push notification is a clickable pop-up message that is sent to a user’s device to make them aware of a sports match result, time-limited discount, abandoned cart, etc.

Research on push notifications and mobile engagement shows that over 81% of Android users and 51.2% of iOS users choose to keep push notifications enabled on their devices. This means push notifications are effective tools for engaging and re-engaging customers.

Opt-in push notifications — those that users have agreed to receive are essential in increasing the engagement rate of your customers. These notifications power a business to reach out and engage their customers outside the app environment — even when they’re not using the app. This unlocks many opportunities to drive up conversions.

Progressive web apps (PWAs) use modern technologies to convey a user experience similar to a native mobile app. One of the valued features of these fast web apps is their offline support and push notifications.

How to measure the performance of push notifications

One of the key metrics to measure the performance of your push notifications is their direct open rate. To measure this, you need to know the number of push notifications that led to conversions (closed purchase, coupon redemption, etc.) and the number of total push notifications sent out in a specific campaign or a certain period of time.

As push notifications are sent directly to the device of your customers, personalization is key to increasing the direct open rate. The more personalized your messages, the higher their open rate.

How push notifications help with customer engagement

Brands with a mobile app are always looking for ways to stay in touch with their customers. Push notifications have emerged as the customers’ preferred digital engagement channel, enabling businesses to deepen their interaction with customers.

Delivering push notifications that are related to your live promotions campaigns is an effective solution to increase customers' engagement. They also help you re-engage with those customers who haven’t been active for a while.

With the rising prices making customers spend more cautiously, push notifications are able to help your business decrease its churn rate.
